Buddy Holly was a 1950s rock musician and one of the most popular musicians of rock's early period. His career was tragically cut short when he was killed in a plane crash in 1959, The Day the Music Died. The crash also killed The Big Bopper and Richie Valens. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was usually backed by The Crickets, and there was a controversy when he was inducted without them.
